The Task
Create designs and promotional materials for Figma’s March Madness x College campaign to increase brand awareness & product engagement
*Figma is the leading industry user interface design tool used by ux designers
Here’s a peak at what I did 👀
My Role
I worked as an independent graphic designer for Figma during their college basketball campaign. For this contract, I created graphic designs and promotional videos that showcased my work and their brand.
During this time I attended exclusive developmental workshops led by Figma’s design advocacy team to hone my technical skills!
Making a Basketball Bracket Interesting
The main design I delivered was my twist on the classic basketball bracket. I knew that my designs would be shared across Figma’s social media, so I wanted to create something bold, colorful, and fun that kept Figma’s brand at the forefront and made people wonder:
and given what, a quick google search of “basketball brackets” showed me, I was pretty optimistic in my ability to create something different.
My Design
I designed my bracket as a “meta” reference to Figma itself, recreating their desktop UI to mimic the experience of designing in the app while actually looking at a static design. Most notably, my graphics featured responsive & customizable elements such as “fake text fields” and “comments” in Figma’s colors and styles. I added these aspects as a way to let users make my template unique and their own (and hopefully to incentivize sharing).
You can find these designs on Figma's community page.
Filming & Editing a Promotional Video
At the request of Figma's design advocacy team, I also scripted, filmed, and edited a short promotional video using Final Cut Pro. The only catch? To make it 15 seconds or less
I took inspiration from both Figma's current content curation and popular social media trends at the time to create a video that highlighted Figma as a powerful yet beginner-friendly design tool. This video was then shared across Figma's social media, namely Linkedin and Instagram, where I was showcased as a selected designer.
